Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum)

Origin: Slovenia

Description: The Helichrysum Italicum plant grows wild in Mediterranean regions. It can be found in regions with dry, high altitudes with a lot of sun exposure. Helichrysum is also known as Immortelle or Everlasting. This is because the flowering tops keep their yellow color ever as they dry out.

Common Uses: Helichrysum Essential Oil is credited by aromatherapists as being effective for acne, bruises, boils, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, irritated skin and wounds. It is said to support the body through post-viral fatigue and convalescence, and can also be used to repair skin damaged by psoriasis, eczema or ulceration. Helichrysum Essential Oil is believed to soothe away deep emotional stress and diffuse anger and destructive feelings.Helichrysum has been beneficial for hearing problems caused by nerve damage. Beneficial when used against allergic conditions, bacterial, fungus, virus, inflammation (properties that may reduce inflammation exceed those of any other oil), and hematoma (swelling or tumor full of diffused blood, powerful anticoagulant). Best for traumas, bruises, acne, eczema, regenerating (stimulates new cells), broken veins (couperose), stretch marks, spots, inflammations, old scars and wounds. Beneficial for chronic dermatitis (virtually unlimited value in treating dermatitis and other skin disorders), muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, sprains, respiratory conditions, whooping cough, nerves, spleen, headaches and pulmonary spasms. Aromatic Scent: Helichrysum has a powerful scent that can be described as a rich and honey-sweet. It is both woody and fresh.

History: The word Helichrysum is derived from the Greek word helios meaning sun and chrysos meaning gold. This is a reference to the golden color of many of the flowers from this botanical genus. Helichrysum has been used since the time of the ancient Greeks for its great wound healing ability, and was used often after battles.

Cautions: Helichrysum Essential Oil is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitizing. Avoid use during pregnancy.
